Anabel Chew is currently 27 years old and is a graduate from the University of Melbourne’s Victorian College of the Arts Faculty. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance.
Prior to studying at the University of Melbourne, she completed a Diploma in Jazz Music Performance at LASALLE College of The Arts, Singapore. She is one of the top graduates in the course.
In April 2007 Anabel Chew was featured in the ‘YouthInk’ section The Straits Times newspaper as one of the 3 ‘Jazz Rising Stars’ in Singapore. She has maintained a high profile performing regularly for corporate events and private functions, as well as residencies at the Lager Lounge, Centerstage, Robertson Walk, The Jewel Box@Mount Faber, CHIJMES, Blujaz Café; concerts at The Arts House, LASALLE, Esplanade Outdoor Theatre and Esplanade Concourse for Mosaic 2007 and 2010 and Sentosa’s ‘Jazz by the Beach’. Her move to Melbourne, Australia in 2008 also brought her to renowned jazz clubs like ‘Dizzy’s’ and ‘Paris Cat’.
She was a member of the Singapore Jazz Orchestra and since returning to Singapore in 2009, she has teamed up with samba percussion band NovoBloco as well as saxophonist Greg Lyons’ 10-piece jazz unit ‘Omniform’, and is a regular feature at Blujaz Café on Monday nights. She also is the resident pianist at the tea lounge at the Regent Hotel Singapore (2011-2012), flautist at Hotel Rendezvous (2012), and most recently, flautist the revamped Pan Pacific Atrium Lounge, playing improvisation sets with a live DJ playing chillout, house and acid jazz music (2012-2013). Currently part of Lily of the Valley, an exciting all-female band that plays music inspired by the expressive sound and style of Latin jazz, world music, soul and pop fusion.
